Sources

This directory's school records are compiled and cross-checked from the public sources listed below — names, addresses, and statuses are re-derived and merged, not republished verbatim. This site is independently run; it is not an official government source, and processing can introduce errors that are not present in the original registries.

For how the data is collected, matched, and kept up to date, see the Methodology page.

This portal's school search covers higher education (universities, graduate schools, junior colleges), not dedicated Japanese-language schools — used here only as a cross-validation reference, not a primary source of school records.

  • MEXT Survey, e-Stat, and JASSO Enrollment Statistics

Government source — MEXT / e-Stat (Portal Site of Official Statistics of Japan) / JASSO

Attribution: Source: e-Stat (Portal Site of Official Statistics of Japan) website (https://www.e-stat.go.jp/stat-search/files?tstat=000001221781)

Multiple annual survey editions (used for enrollment-statistics and legal-reference context, not per-school records), so there is no single retrieval date.

Attribution: Source: CLAIR (Council of Local Authorities for International Relations) (https://www.clair.or.jp/j/multiculture/association/rliea_list.html)

Covers institutions outside the two student-visa sponsor registries above (the ISA notification and MEXT accreditation): university bekka programs, where the university itself sponsors the student visa, and community classrooms and NPO-run classes, which do not sponsor student visas.

  • National Tax Agency — Corporate Number Registry

Government source — National Tax Agency (NTA)

    As of: June 13, 2026

Attribution: Source: National Tax Agency (NTA) website (https://www.houjin-bangou.nta.go.jp/)

Not a school directory — a national corporate-identity resolver. Used only to look up the 13-digit corporate number for a school already found in another source, as a stable anchor for matching that school's records across sources.

  • Enrichment & Quality-Signal Registries (MEXT teacher-training portals, MHLW course/license registries, Nisshinkyo third-party evaluation)

  • Japan Pension Service — Covered-Workplace Search (Employees' Pension / Health Insurance)

Government source — Japan Pension Service

    As of: July 3, 2026

Attribution: Source: Japan Pension Service website (https://www.nenkin.go.jp/service/kounen/jigyosho/jigyoshokensaku.html)

A rolling lookup tool, not a downloadable list: the date above is when this site last ran its lookups. Queried only by the exact corporate number of an operator already identified from another source, to confirm it is an active employer. School corporations are covered by a separate private-school mutual-aid scheme and do not appear in this search, so a missing match is never treated as a sign of closure.

  • SIKI Japanese Language School Database (commercial directory, ~2019)

Independent / association source — SIKI (a private company, not a government body)

    As of: June 21, 2026

Attribution: Source: SIKI Japanese Language School Database (commercial directory, ~2019) (https://www.aikgroup-siki.com/j-school/)

Unverified secondary source whose content dates from around 2019 (the date above is when this site retrieved it). Used only to fill contact details (address, phone, fax, email, nearest station) that no registry or school website supplied, and never to overwrite a value from a more authoritative source; these details may be out of date.
